Liberia 🇱🇷 :LACC Launches Nationwide Anti-Corruption Awareness Campaign In Gbarnga

Bong County – The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) has launch its Nationwide Anti-Corruption Awareness Campaign in Gbarnga, with a call for citizens to become ambassadors and whistle blowers.

The launch of the campaign held under the theme “promoting integrity and accountability for increase citizens participation in the fight against corruption in Liberia” was held at the Administrative building in Gbarnga with several students, local government officials, members of the Liberia National Police (LNP) Bong detachment, and other relevant institutions heads in attendance.

Giving the official statement at the launch of the awareness campaign Atty. George H. Dahn who is the commisioner of Education and Prevention division at LACC said, it is about time that every Liberian citizens including the joint security, young and old, educated and uneducated join the LACC to collectively tackle corruption in Liberia adding that the launching ceremony held in Gbarnga is part of the massive awareness campaign that is expected to be conducted by the LACC in the 15 sub-political divisions in Liberia.

Commissioner Dahn urged those in attendance during the event to demonstrate integrity and act as whistle blowers and ambassadors to report whatever form of corruption they come across in their schools and respective communities.

Commissioner Dahn disclosed that as part of efforts to ensure that students adequately play active roles in curtailing corruption in Liberia, LACC has begun establishing Anti-Corruption clubs in schools across the country.

At the occasion Rev. Fr. Thomas H. Williams questioned the LACC commissioners on the role of the LACC in relations to the safety of those that will serve as whistle blowers in their communities.

Responding to Rev. Fr. Thomas H. Williams and others enquiries Dahn said, whilst it is true LACC does not have legitimate laws that protects whistle blowers in Liberia they (LACC) have drafted and submitted a Bill to the House of Representatives which will subsequently be passed into law.

Atty. Dahn averred that the Bill which is tag as the “Whistle Blowers Act” when enacted into law will safely protect and ensure the lives of whistle blowers and will also enable the LACC to relocate whistle blowers out of the country for safety when the need arises.

Also Responding to the an enquiry about LACC having conflict of interest on members of the executive and other state officials since they were appointed by the executive branch of government.

The LACC head of Education and Prevention Division explains, that the Liberia Anti Corruption Commission is a national autonomous commission with mandate to create awareness, investigate, and prosecute acts of corruption involving public officials and resources and as such it has nothing to do with conflict of interest on who ever that is or will be found in the act of corruption.

The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) was established by an Act of Legislature on August 28, 2008 with the mandate to investigate and prosecute acts of corruption, as well as educate the public about the ills of corruption and the benefits of its eradication.
