THE INCIDENT MANAGEMENT CENTER OF NIKO IVANKA DISTRESS INCIDENT HAS PROVIDED DETAILS OF THE SURVIVOR

The Incident Management Center (IMC) which is comprised of the Liberia Maritime Authority, National Port Authority, Liberia Coast Guards, Liberian Immigration Service, Liberia National Police and other relevant Stakeholders has provided details of Survivors and Deceased members of the NIKO IVANKA Distress Incident; IMC also says it will provide Update on the Recovery Phase of missing persons from the ship.

According to a press statement IMC, The Liberian Coast Guards has launched an Underwater Diving Operations in the Incident area in an effort to locate the sunk vessel, recover persons that may have been entrapped in it as well as mark and barricade the area so that the sunk vessel does not pose danger to the safety of navigation, that is it doesn’t endanger free movements of other vessels routing the area.

Meanwhile, IMC says as stated in their previous press conferences and releases, they have launched an investigation into the incident. It further stated that an independent and certified international marine casualty investigator hired by the government is in the country to establish circumstances that led to the ship wreck.

In a related development, the twelve survivors rescued have been identified to include nine (9) Liberian Nationals, two (2) Chinese and one (1) Swedish. Also, eight dead bodies of some of the missing persons have been recovered and identified.

“They have also committed two vehicles (ambulances) to assist with the process. We extend profound gratitude to our technicians and representatives of institutions that converge daily at The Incident Management Center (IMC) to strategize and manage the crisis, including ArcelorMittal Liberia for its continuous support. The IMC will appreciate technical and logistical assistance in this endeavor”, the INCIDENT MANAGEMENT CENTER mentioned.
