LIBERIA, The Plenary of the Liberian Senate has mandated the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights Claims, and Petition to investigate a concern that the rights of some Liberians have been perpetually violated by some agencies of Government.

The decision of Plenary was trigged by a concern raised by Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillon on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 during the 11th Day Sitting of the Liberian Senate. Senator Dillon alleged that ‘Mixed-breed Citizens’ experienced constant discrimination and abuses of their Citizens rights by some Agencies of Government in the process of acquiring vital national documents.

According to a release from the Senate Press & Public Affairs Department, Senator Dillon, explained that Citizens in said category with an alleged ‘dual Citizenship’ complained that they have been denied Birth Certificates and Passports on grounds that they are not Citizens of Liberia, having taking Citizenship in another Countries.

The Montserrado Senator reminded his Colleagues that he officially communicated with the Senate since last year with respect to the issue of Mixed-breed citizens.

After setting the basis, Plenary resolved that the Judiciary Committee takes charged of the matter and include it during the impending Judiciary Committee retreat slated for this weekend for deliberation and report findings and recommendations to Plenary early next week.
