The Government of Liberia has vowed to capture the Press Union of Liberia in the country's 2023 national budget. Making the revelation, the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Nathaniel F. McGill said the move is in keeping with the government's commitment to support and empower the press in Liberia. He further said the Government of Liberia through the Executive branch intends to capture the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) in the 2023 national budget is intended to allow the Press operates independently, ahead of the 2023 General and Presidential elections in the Country. The amanuensis in the offices of President Weah said while the government continues to empower ordinary citizens across the country, it has opted to capture the Press Union of Liberia in the 2023 national budget. According to Minister McGill, This will help buttress the efforts of media executives in paying their workers, noting that this is the CDC government's own way of support to the media in Liberia. The Minister of State for Presidential Affairs made the statement recently in Gbarnga, Bong County, during the dedicatory ceremony of Kwatekeh FM Radio's state-of-the-art media house in the County. Minister McGill, who served as Chief Launcher at the program, made a cash donation of US$3,000 and pledged US$2,000 on behalf of his family in support of the radio station in Bong County. The Press Union of Liberia was founded on September 30, 1964, by a group of independent journalists. It serves as an umbrella organization for media professionals and institutions to advocate for press freedom and the legal protection of journalists. The PUL collaborates with local, national, and international organizations including the Liberian Ministry of Information, the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), the West African Journalists Association (WAJA), and the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).
