MOE And Youth And Sports Ministry Present Traveling Documents To First Batch Of TEVET Teachers

The Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth & Sports, have Presented Travelling Documents to the First Batch of Vocational Training Teachers to South Africa

The both ministries with support from UNIDO held a Pre-Departure workshop and official Sent off ceremony and presented travelling documents to the first batch of vocational training teachers who are ready to undergo an intensive 29- month technical vocational training program in Welding and Fabrication in South Africa.

According to the Minister of Education Prof.D. Ansu Sonii, Sr., the government of Liberia, under the stewardship of President George Manneh Weah, remains committed and farsighted towards the enhancement and acceleration of both the formal and informal education sectors.

The Minister of Education speaking to the beneficiaries said that teachers must remain focused and determined in their pursuit of quality and advanced vocational training program adding, that the opportunity given them must be utilized responsibly.

However, the Liberian Minister of Education alarmed over the increasing number of COVID-19 cases. He cautioned all school administrators, education stakeholders and the public to reinforce the preventive measures against the further spread of the deadly corona virus which he described as enemy of the State.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Minister of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) of the Ministry of Education, Hon. Saku Dukuly said that the scholarship opportunity given to the 74 teachers was based on a robust vetting process by the two collaborating Ministries.

According to Assistant Minister Dukuly, this is the first of its kind to see a huge number of vocational training teachers departing for foreign vocational training studies at the same time adding, that the joint efforts by both Ministries with support from partners will help to upgrade the vocational and technical institutions in the Country.

Also speaking was Assistant Minister for Technical Vocational Education and Training ( TVET) at the Ministry of Youth & Sports, Hon. Millias Z. Sheriff who stated that the revamping of the vocational sector in Liberia must first begin with an intensive and aggressive capacity training program for vocational teachers in various disciplines.

Assistant Minister Sheriff also disclosed that the intensive vocational training program is expected to be held in South Africa, Zambia and Kenya.

Adding that the first batch of vocational teachers which comprised of 12 teachers has completed everything regarding their allowances, accommodations, and feedings.He concluded that the program will run for the period of 29 months considering both practical and theoretical aspects.

At the program was the Special Representative of UNIDO, Mr. Rogers Ndege, in a brief remark , extended heartfelt gratitude to both Ministries for the level of measures and mechanism instituted towards the departure of the vocational teachers. According to him, UNIDO remains very committed, supportive and will ensure that this unique capacity training program plays a pivotal role for the advancement of the informal Education sector.
