The Liberia Land Authority (LLA), concluded a one-day Educational, Informational and Sensitization event in Kingsville Township, lower Montserrado County.

The event which was organized October 8th, 2021, by the leadership of the township and the LLA through its Communications and Outreach Section, brought together hundreds of participants of the township ranging from the leadership, stakeholders, civil society organisations, chiefs, women, youths, elders and as well as local groups working to enhance development in the township.

Giving the overview of the one-day event, LLA Communications and Outreach Officer, Emmanuel Chedeh Davis, said that the meeting was organized after the LLA Awareness team visited the community during its awareness campaign on the dissemination of information on the Land Rights Act and the LLA Act in that part of the country.

Mr. Davis praised the leadership of Kingsville Township and informed participants that the event is geared towards informing, educating and sensitizing residents of their rights and responsibilities as enshrined within the LRA, as was done across the fifteen counties of Liberia. The Communication and Outreach Officer however used the occasion to encourage all participants to ask relevant questions that seek to address key issues raised during the awareness team campaign in the community. Mr. Davis further asserted that information dissemination can only be achieved if the needed support is provided to the LLA, noting that said event is a clear indication that the people need the information, therefore, the need for more support in this area remains paramount.

Speaking during the event, LLA Chairman Hon. Atty. J. Adams Manobah, Sr., firstly extended thanks and appreciation on behalf of the Board of Commissioners and staff of the LLA to the leadership and people of Kingsville Township. The LLA boss further encouraged participants not to fight or use any means harmful to solve land palava (disputes). He said the LLA can also resolve land disputes through its Alternative Disputes Resolution Mechanism (ADR). He called on all to ensure that the peace of Liberia is maintained.

At the occasion, Chairman Manobah called on all persons to visit the LLA office at all times for all land related issues, including the registration of their land deeds. The Chairman who spoke extensively on the significance of the four categories of land ownership, with emphasis on public land including the functions and mandate of the LLA, affirmed that the work of the LLA is only achievable if local authorities desist from using their offices to illegally transact land business. He said Liberia can be better if everyone do what is right and in the best interest of the country.

Further, the LLA Chairman expressed thanks and appreciation to the awareness team for the level of work done. He said that it is now time for the people squatting on public land to take ownership, using the right processes which would enable government generate the needed revenues for social economic growth and national development. In his closing statement, Chairman Manobah promised to work closely with the leadership of the township to resolve their many requests made to LLA. The LLA Chairman ended with a PowerPoint Presentation on the LLA Act and the LRA.

However, at the end of the One-day event, the leadership and people of Kingsville Township headed by Hon. Augustus Binda, Commissioner, Kingsville Township, commended the LLA Chairman for the level of work done and as well as the Chairman’s visitation to the community. “Thank you Atty. Manobah and the entire LLA team for coming. We have a big problem here when it comes to land business, therefore, your coming today is surely a dream come through for the leadership of Kingsville.” Hon. Binda said.

He further said that since the passage of the LRA and the establishment of the LLA, it is the first time to have seen such an awareness campaign carried out throughout the country. Hon. Binda however used the occasion to call on the LLA boss to ensure that more awareness is done to educate citizens, something he said will greatly help in minimising land disputes and conflicts across the country. Hon. Binda also praised the awareness team for coming to the township but complained that doing awareness in selected districts and communities only deprived other Liberians access to land information and thereby called on the national government and donor partners to help the LLA to promote the law.

The LLA delegation was headed by Hon. Atty. J. Adams Manobah, Sr, Chairman, LLA, was comprised of Emmanuel Chedeh Davis, Communications and Outreach Officer, Mr. Richelieu Wollor, Program Manager, Nationwide Awareness Campaign and staffs of the Awareness and Outreach Section of the LLA.
