Gender Ministry Validates Two-Year Strategic Work Plan

The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection with support from UN Women-Liberia has concluded a day long validation of the Ministry’s two-year Strategic Plan. The strategic plan redesigned and realigned the Ministry’s activities, programs with the Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD). The two-year Strategic Plan will effectively and sufficiently direct, manage and control the activities of the Ministry in conformity with the PAPD.
Additionally, the two-year Strategic Plan is aimed at but not limited to: Strengthening awareness for communities and stakeholders to address issues affecting women, girls, children and vulnerable people; Promoting policy advocacy on issues of gender, children and social protection and; Focusing on the reduction of violence against women, girls and other marginalized groups as well as empowering women, girls, and vulnerable people so that they are self-sufficient to stand against potential violations of their rights.
In an opening statement, Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister Williametta E. Saydee-Tarr lauded partners especially UN Women-Liberia and the Swedish Embassy for tirelessly rendering their support to the Ministry.

Minister Tarr averred that as Minister of Gender she and her team have effectively worked in close connection with partners to efficiently rollout the Ministry’s legal responsibilities in collocation with the overall aspirations of the Government of Liberia Pro- Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development.
“As I dispensed the level of leadership which is required to have the ministry achieve its core objectives, I have always been cognizant of the fact that there must be a point where we must review our activities as an instittion and make a determination as to whether we are still keeping ourselves in a strategic direction that can afford us realize our vision”, Minister Saydee-Tarr asserted.
In separate remarks, Representatives from the Embassy of Sweden and UN Women-Liberia reaffirmed their Institutions’ unflinching supports to the workings of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection. Speaking virtually via zoom, the Proxies disclosed that their Institutions remain committed to assisting in the fight for gender equality, zero sexual and gender based violence against women, girls and vulnerable people and amongst others helping to strengthen the capacity of women, girls and marginalized groups.
