More than two weeks since their family was reportedly announced dead, the family members of WAEC officials who reportedly died in the Niko Ivanka vessel have threatened protest action if the government of Liberia fails to speed up the investigation.
Speaking at a news conference Thursday at the headquarters of WAEC Liberia, the Chairman of the families, Jelson Keamah, said since the incident, they have observed with dismay that the national government is delaying to intervene.
The aggrieved families further said failure on the part of Maritime Authority, West African Examination Council and the National Port Authority to make relevant intervention or declare a national emergency; they will be left with no option, but to stage a protest in demand of justice.
Keamah alleged that while they are yet to get proper redress about the death of their love ones, WAEC Liberia is planning or carrying out secret replacement of those reported dead on the wrecked Niko Ivanka vessel.
Meanwhile, some of the victims’ families explaining their ordeal revealed that the issue surrounding their love ones’ death is unusual.
It can be recalled on July 19, the Commissioner of the Liberia Maritime Authority, Lenn Eugene Nagbe announced that nine employees of WAEC Liberia along with other citizens unofficially onboard the vessel sank.
