Dozens Displaced , Several Homeless;As whole Day , Whole Night Rainfall Results To Heavy Flood In Gb

As a natural phenomenal,a heavy down pull of rain has resulted to over flooding of the Jor-River in Gbarnga; thus damaging several homes and displacing dozens of occupants.

It was on Tuesday August 31,2021 at about 12:00am when residents of Gbarnga and its environs experienced an endless rainfall up to 7:30am on Wednesday which caused the Jor-River to have over flooded its bank and dreadfully engulfed several houses and business centers including the famous Korla and Son Business Center.

The Over flooding of the Jor-River in Gbarnga following the endless two days rainfall has brought a moment of sorrow to many struggling Liberians in the centrally located city in Liberia.

During a survey conducted by our Reporter on the devastating situation, victims of the Flood predominantly widows, School going kids and Business Tycoons who lost several valuable items, expressed total frustration over the huge lose the flood has caused them.

Communities affected by the flood in Gbarnga including; Civil Compound,LPMC Road, Rubber factory and Brooklyn respectively.

Many of the flood victims who spoke to our Reporter during an independent survey most especially Widows and school going kids launched an SOS call to the Government of Liberia through the National Disaster Management Agency for quick intervention in order to restore their lost hopes.

“The way the rain fell for whole day, whole night ,it was very surprising to us. On Tuesday night, some of us started seeing the water entering in our various houses. It destroyed plenty things from us, like; Rice, Clothes, Our children school materials and some of us even lost money as well. So, we really want the government of Liberia to help us quickly because we are now suffering,no food,no clothes to wear and even place to sleep because the water still in our houses” The flood victims explained their ordeals.

Some of the struggling Liberians are currently sharing domestic materials with their neighbors; something according to them is embarrassing, especially a time when the country’s economy is sabotaged by the hemorrhagic viruses.

It is established that flooding is not too common in Gbarnga, the latest experience was in 2017 at which time neighbouring Sierra Leone was grappling the same.
