In an effort to minimize conflict between communities and concession companies in the forestry sector, the Development Education Network Liberia (DEN-L) has concluded a three day capacity building workshop with several Communities in District #4, Grand Bassa County.
The training according to DEN-L’s Senior Expert, Denny Giwlay, was sponsored by the Multi Forest Governance Accountability Project (MFGAP).
Mr. Giwlay told GTv-Liberia that the key objective of the training was to educate citizens of the Martro Community Forest on how to constructively advocate for their benefits as enshrined in the “Third-Party Agreement”.

The DEN-L Senior Expert also noted that the training will provide community members the opportunity to clearly understand the systematic approach in advocacy as they seek for benefits from companies operating in their various forests.
He said DEN-L has been working with affected Communities across Liberia in addressing issues of violence between affected Communities and Companies operating in forest areas.
Mr. Giwlay believes the provision of technical knowledge and advocacy strategies for citizens is key to minimizing conflict between communities and companies.
Speaking earlier, MFGAP Capacity Building and Development Associate Officer, Arvin Zawolo, admonished participants to utilize every skill and knowledge acquired from the training for the betterment of their respective communities.
Mr. Zawolo at the same time commended DEN-L for the successful conduct of the training as part of efforts to resolving conflict in the forestry sector.
